The Importance of Local Public Agency (LPA) Programs and State/Local Partnerships

Moderator: Lamin Williams, SHA Director of Planning

The relationship between State Departments of Transportation (SDOTs) and Local Public Agencies (Counties, Cities, and MPOs) is critical to ensuring a coordinated transportation system that meets the needs of all users. It is important to understand that locally owned roads account for 34% of all vehicle miles traveled in the US. Strong coordination with SDOTs is a necessity. This panel/session will highlight the work of states and local public agencies (LPAs) in partnering on projects of local/regional significance. As well as highlight efforts to reduce serious injury and fatalities related to roadway crashes.
