Erich Florence serves as the Deputy District 3 Engineer for the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA). Over the course of his 18-year career with MDOT SHA, he has held a variety of progressively responsible engineering and leadership positions, including Assistant District Engineer of Project Development, Access Management Regional Engineer, and Transportation Engineer/Project Manager. Erich has developed broad expertise in multimodal transportation and district operations, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of transportation capital projects and developer projects across Maryland. In his current role, he oversees traffic operations and project development activities, including planning, design, and permitting for projects in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties. These are two of Maryland's most densely populated areas, and where the successful integration of multimodal facilities is essential to meeting the needs of the various communities. Erich serves as the assigned SHA liaison for the MTA Purple Line project. Erich earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and is a 2026 graduate of MDOT SHA's Advanced Leadership Program. He is committed to fostering collaboration and delivering transportation solutions that enhance safety, mobility, and accessibility for all roadway users.
