Nickie Hunter is NHDOT’s Assistant Director of Project Development. A role she stepped into in mid-December 2025. Prior to that, Nickie had a distinguished career in construction, which started in 1993 as an Assistant Engineer with Maine DOT’s Bureau of Bridge Construction before joining NHDOT in 1994. In her three-plus decades with NHDOT, she advanced through roles including Field Inspector, Contract Administrator, District Construction Engineer, and Construction Bureau Administrator. She has led many of New Hampshire’s most complex and high-profile projects, such as the Northeast’s first Open-Road Tolling installation on I-95, the award-winning Design-Build Memorial Bridge replacement, and the $180 million Spaulding Turnpike expansion between Newington and Dover. Nickie brings expertise in work zone safety, construction quality, and alternative project delivery, and has contributed extensively to policy development and committee leadership. Named the WTS-NH Woman of the Year in 2023, Nickie holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University. She is also active in her community as a field hockey coach, musician, and church moderator.
