Meredith Slesinger
Rail & Transit Administrator
Massachusetts Department of Transportation
As Administrator of MassDOT’s Rail & Transit Division, Meredith Slesinger is leading the charge to modernize and expand the Commonwealth’s passenger and freight rail network while strengthening transit service across Massachusetts. Meredith joined MassDOT in August 2020 and serves as the Rail and Transit Administrator, overseeing the Commonwealth’s passenger and freight rail programs and its 15 Regional Transit Authorities. Under her leadership, the Division launched Compass Rail, a long-term vision for expanding intercity passenger service, including future west–east service between Boston and Albany. Under Meredith’s direction, MassDOT has secured more than $150 million in federal funding to advance key rail initiatives. Her collaboration with Amtrak and CSX led to a $108 million Federal Railroad Administration grant to expand service along the Inland Route, adding new daily round-trips between Boston, Springfield, and New Haven. This effort was recognized by WTS-Boston’s 2024 Innovative Transportation Solutions Award. Before joining MassDOT, she held senior leadership roles at Amtrak, the Northeast Corridor Commission, and the American Public Transportation Association, bringing extensive experience in strategic planning, policy development, and intergovernmental collaboration. A Washington, D.C. native and New York University graduate, Meredith now resides in Boston, where she continues to champion innovation, connectivity, and long-term investment in the Commonwealth’s transportation future.
